Later that day we decided to play cards, play ping-pong and read and relax before our long journey back to Lusaka. Around 9 we packed up our stuff and walked to the bus station, at that moment I was glad David was with us, it was very sketchy. When we got to the bus station we waited in line to make sure we were one of the first on. There was only 60 seats and there was way more then 100 people waiting. What looked like our bus drove up and everyone from the ride before got out and dumped trash on the ground. A little boy came up and started picking through the trash and throwing it away. I don't care if it is for money or not, a child shouldn't have to pick up trash, it was hard to watch. We then loaded on the bus and made our way to our seats. There was no air condition and the bus was over crowded, it was a brutal 8 hours. Every few hours the lights go one and people bump pass you to get off, there was no way I was getting any sleep that night. We arrived in Lusaka before 6 and had no idea, just thought it was another stop. 30 minutes later we realize we are at our destination and called for a taxi driver. We then got into the guest house at 7, and decided to have a little breakfast. Jennie and I didn't need to be at the airport till noon and we wanted to take a nap. I felt like I just came from work at Hillcrest, going to sleep at 8 in the morning.
In the kitchen during breakfast a boy said hi to me and I looked at him and said wait haven't I seen you before! The craziest thing- there was 2 boys and 1 girl that was staying at Jollyboys at the same time as us. They went on the bus back to Lusaka that morning before us. To see them at the flight house was just crazy. Ended up learning that their parents use to be missionaries in Zambia, and that's how they ended up knowing the same people as us- what a small world ( to remind you Lusaka is on the opposite end of Zambia.) At noon Gordon Hanna took us to the airport and we then took another small plane into Loloma, I got to be co-pilot this time. Don the pilot let me fly it a little, he was very relaxed. We flew into Loloma around 4:30 and we were out the door to the girls camp.
From Friday to Tuesday we would be camping in tents. Which to be fair I thought that's what I would be staying in the entire time I would be here and only 5 days is great! Julie got out mattress and sleeping bags, camping in style. We had holes for toilets and cold water for showers, but hey you have to experience village life some time. Friday we got into the camp site and set up our tent- well I watched as I never camp and have no idea how to set one up. Then was dinner of shima, beans and leaves, which was delicious as always. Then we met all the girls and got assigned a cabin. We had what was called "quiet time" with the girls and talked about The Lord Jesus dying on the cross for their sins! I was amazed at how they didn't think Hell was that bad of a place. I told them it would be so dark they wouldn't be able to see their hand in front of their face. I told them that they would thirst and not have anything to drink-ever, and that they would live in all eternity in the lake of fire. They were all very shocked, thinking that if all their friends are there in Hell it would be fun- ya not so much! After quiet time we all went to bed.
The next morning I woke up at 6 for exercise. Me and one of the other counselors ran with them, I taught them jumping jacks and they just loved doing them, laughing the entire time. After exercise we had another quiet time and learned about John 14:6" I am the way the truth and the life, no man comes to the father except through me." It is amazing how the Holy Spirit works because just last week at youth group the was the very same passage we talked about! After quiet time we had bread rolls with peanut butter and bananas with tea and coffee. That has become a favorite of mine since being here. After breakfast we had a learning session on some of the different names of God. Example: "The Bread of Life, I Am." After the session we sang and discussed what we learned. There is about 140 Jr/senior girls here and each counselor has about 12 girls. We then had lunch with shima, chicken, fish, beans and leaves, 4 hours later I am still full. Then we had hand craft where the girls are learning how to sew a head scarf , and I am as well. We had a second session about teaching the girls about sexual diseases and abortion. They don't have much health classes at school. Most girls have had sex by age 15 and they don't know any better. Later that evening we had dinner followed by the last quiet time of the day. I am getting to know the girls very quickly. I hope I can be a help to the girls and we can become friends. Already one girl professed to accept Jesus last night, which is wonderful news!
That is all I will write for now, sorry to cram so many things into one blog. The interest has not been working very good, none of my blogs will publish. I can't believe I have wifi right now in the bush. One of the missionaries here needs Internet to help translate the bible in another language, so we get the privilege of having Internet also!!
